First Look: The Town of Bleakwater

Founded after the inundation and utter ruination of Nylemouth 80 years ago, the town of Bleakhaven is the largest civilised settlement on the Skeleton Coast. Here dwell most of Solonor’s folk in relative peace. The town benefits from a natural deepwater anchorage, and thus, merchant ships are a common sight in the harbour. Some vessels come to Bleakhaven carrying goods and travellers, while others merely stop here before continuing onwards. Yet more seek shelter behind the town’s defences from the pirates that patrol the Bitter Sea in search of easy prey.

Adventurers are a common sight in Bleakhaven—drawn to the frontier by the opportunities for glory and advancement lurking therein. Solonor Island is a convenient and safe base from which to explore the surrounding wilderlands, and Bleakhaven offers many of civilisation’s (basic) comforts. For all its relative comfort and safety, Bleakhaven is a town perched on the edge of the wilderlands.
